Bhutan

A tiny Himlayan kingdom which has chosen to retain its traditions and culture in the face of rapid change, Bhutan has determined that 60% of the country should remain under forest -  for all time. It's here, also, where people speak of "Gross Domestic Happiness" rather than gross domestic product.

The country is dominated by massive snow-capped peaks, deep valleys, wonderful forests and grandiose timber forts (dzhongs).

Bhutan will appeal to nature-lovers and those who rejoice in the traditional way of life. Here you'll see students learning centuries-old crafts and traditionally-clad men and women competing in their favourite sport - archery.

It's a marvellous destination which will cause you to reflect on what is truly important in life.

Come, join us and experience a country like no other!

The north of Bhutan is dominated by mighty Himalayan peaks and deep valleys. From there, it drops away into the southern foothills and terai (bordering India). The country experiences a very cold winter between November and February, then warms up from March to October. As with the rest of the Indian sub-continent, the monsoon sweeps through between June and August, during which times landslides are commonplace. With this in mind, the best time to visit is from mid-March to May and September to mid- November.

The Bhutanese government limits the number of tourist visas each year and has established a per day rate - inclusive of accommodation, all meals, transportation, sightseeing and entry fees. This unique perspective ensures that visitor numbers are limited and there is no strain on infrastructure or environment. Accommodation will, in the main, be in comfortable motel-style properties of a 3.5 star category.

Travel Tree has included the cost of entry visas within quoted prices.

In each of our itineraries, we include details of what's included and what's not. Breakfasts are included throughout and some itineraries also include many meals.

Where there's the choice, we like to leave some meals free so that our travellers can experience local cuisine in markets and restaurants.

Throughout, we try to include the most important sightseeing in each of the cities / regions visited. The only regret we want you to suffer is that your wonderful experience has come to an end.
